Steel Construction and Coded Entry for Optimum Protection
Boasting Homak's patented design that offers optimum durability and security, the HS10036683 features heavy-duty powdered steel construction that resists wear and tear. This tough pistol box will prevent unauthorized access to your valuables, yet is easily accessible via a keyless quick-access code. Simply type in your personalized digits and the box will open.

Protects Young Children
The HS10036683 is ideal for homes with young children. It allows adults quick and easy access to a handgun, yet it resists any attempts by curious children to open it. In fact, the unit will go into a timed lockout mode if the password is entered incorrectly too many times in a row.

Theft-Proof, Patented Design
To help prevent thieves from prying open the unit, the HS10036683's door has rounded corners and it closes flush. Also, its small size allows for multiple mounting options, and the included rubber mat fits the interior to help prevent scuffs and scratches on the gun.

And because the HS10036683 is battery powered, with battery terminals conveniently located on the front, you won't have to worry about a power outage cutting off access to your handgun.

Dimensions and Warranty Information
The HS10036683 measures 10.0 x 3.5 x 7.5 inches (WxHxD), weighs 10 pounds, and is backed by a one-year warranty against manufacturing defects.

4 out of 5 stars Very Good For The Price   July 29, 2010

I actually have this pistol box's big brother- the medium pistol box. This box works great for a great price. Again, as others have stated, it won't keep a burglar from making off with this box, but it will keep children and guests from "finding" and handling your firearms. It is easy to operate and program. We practice with it every day and it opens quickly- within a couple seconds.
After having this for about 2 months, the door began to stick closed. The keypad was working and I could hear the lock releasing the door, but the door would only open after several tries. The solution was to put a couple drops of oil at the point where the latch catches the door. Now it opens more smoothly than when it was new. When I buy another one of these (and I intend to do that), I will oil the latch as soon as I open the box.

4 out of 5 stars Good child safety safe   July 20, 2010

I bought two of these reasonably priced safes to have in the bedroom and to hide one in the kitchen. My wife and I both carry and I like making it very convenient to lock up the guns because we have small children. As some reviews noted it can be broken into very easily so if you are buying for true security save your money. It serves well as a child safety safe and can be quickly opened. I have a larger safe for security and fire protection so this fills a different nitch. I did notice the battery pack falls loose over time and the lack of a key overide is why I rated it 4 instead of 5.

1 out of 5 stars PIECE OF JUNK   May 22, 2010

I owned this gun safe for about six months. It worked great up until it suddenly lost my personalized entry code. Up until this point, I had no trouble opening and closing the safe and was basically happy with the unit. Thinking the batteries had died, I tried using the 9V external battery override, but it still wouldn't open. I went online searching for answers and learned it is common for a HOMAK electronic gun safe to inadvertently "forget" its user-programmed code and revert back to the factory default code. Fortunately, I saved the instruction manual, which had the default code printed on the back. Upon entering the default code, I was able to open the safe. I immediately installed four fresh AA batteries and re-programmed the unit with my own code. I wanted to use my own code because it was easier to remember than the factory code, and it was a code I could easily enter by feel without actually looking at the keypad. Well, the unit opened and closed just fine for about two weeks using my new personalized code until one day, out of the blue, I went to open the safe and the darn thing wouldn't accept my code. Thinking it was the same problem as before, I entered the default code printed in the manual, but it still wouldn't open. I tried unsuccessfully for a couple days to open the unit using my personalized code, as well as the default factory code, but to no avail. I also tried using the 9V battery override feature, even though I had just replaced the internal AA batteries. Well, you can imagine my frustration when I finally had to pry the unit open with a crowbar (which wasn't very hard to do, by the way) just so I could retrieve my pistols. There is no manual override or key lock installed in these units, so when the cheap, made-in-China electronics eventually fail, you have no choice but to bust the thing open in order to get out your handguns, etc. Of course, I immediately threw the unit in the garbage where it belongs. I used to own a GunVault brand safe, which never gave me any trouble. The only reason I replaced the GunVault unit with the HOMAK unit is because the GunVault unit was destroyed during a burglary that occurred while I was out of town. I was trying to save a few bucks by replacing my old safe with the HOMAK unit, but I know now that was a mistake. Do not buy one of these safes! What good is a gun safe if the owner can't get it open? Imagine if this problem had come to light during a home invasion. No way will I buy another one of these units.

3 out of 5 stars Too Thin & Small   May 11, 2010

This safe is really too thin to hold my Glock 21 properly. The dimensions are outside dimensions and there is very little usable space on the inside.

4 out of 5 stars Good to go   March 5, 2010
Love of guns Hwy 101 (Ca. USA)
All the concerns I had about this unit where put at eas when I recieved it in the mail. The non key over ride I was worried about is addresed with an external pos / neg battery attachment point if the bettery goes dead. The unit is stout and would be difficult to enter. The only problem I had with the unit was the lack of holes drilled in the center of the back for mounting to a single wall stud. The unit has four holes one in each corner so I drilled three consecutive holes in the a line from top to bottom and put three larg screws into the wall stud. Also I would get some self adhesive fuzzy side velcro to cover the screws to resist marring your hand gun. I liked this unit so much I have purchased two more to place around my home.
